Improving Customer Experience and Enhancing Environmental Responsibility through Collaboration between Pickala and Kontram

Pickala Golf and Kontram aim to establish a long-term partnership that benefits both parties by strengthening brand value, driving business growth, and building a shared network. The agreement spans five years. Our goal is to enhance environmental responsibility and reduce our carbon footprint.

The collaboration involves an IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) solution, where sensors installed in toilet tanks send fill-level data twice daily to the OverSight™ system. This system automatically and cost-efficiently optimizes and alerts waste collection schedules directly to our waste management provider. As a result, unnecessary service visits are avoided. This reduces environmental impact while also generating direct cost savings. Properly timed waste collections improve the customer experience. Across Pickala’s large area, there are eight on-course toilets where Kontram will install wireless microwave radar sensors to measure fill levels.

“The challenge is that during busy periods, the course toilets are heavily used and often fill up quickly. When this happens unexpectedly, it can have far-reaching consequences. Through this collaboration, we ensure Pickala maintains a high level of customer service and reduce unnecessary maintenance traffic on the course,” says Janne Pelkonen, CEO of Pickala Golf.

The system helps avoid uncomfortable situations where a toilet is out of order, forcing a player to contact the course manager, who must then urgently schedule a waste collection and post a notice that the toilet is unusable. Emergency emptying of a single tank is costly.

“With the growing number of players, Pickala has seen an increased need for more advanced technology to improve service levels. Our cooperation with Kontram reduces workload, costs, and truck mileage, but most importantly, it increases customer satisfaction,” Pelkonen continues.
