Condensate Trap Condition Monitoring
Kontram OverSight™ TrapGuard – Intelligent Condition Monitoring for Steam System Condensate Traps
In industrial plants, steam systems are often a critical part of production. The performance of condensate traps directly affects energy efficiency, process stability, and production reliability. In practice, however, the condition of condensate traps is often checked infrequently, manually, and on a spot-check basis. This can lead to situations where faulty traps go unnoticed, energy is wasted, and maintenance visits are performed without precise knowledge of the actual need.
Kontram OverSight™ TrapGuard has been developed to address this challenge. It is a service solution that provides real-time condition monitoring and visibility for condensate traps from all manufacturers, regardless of trap type. The solution removes guesswork, optimizes predictive maintenance, reduces unnecessary service visits, lowers energy consumption, and prevents production disruptions. The monthly subscription includes a set number of measurement points, access to the cloud-based user interface, and measurement sensors installed on-site.

Key Benefits of TrapGuard
TrapGuard takes steam system condition monitoring to the digital level, providing continuous visibility into condensate trap performance.
Ease of use – no upfront investments required
No upfront investment for the customer – Customers don’t need to invest in separate measurement systems or infrastructure. TrapGuard is offered as a service, where the customer pays a clear annual fee in exchange for measurement sensors, system access, continuous digital condition monitoring, and automatic, easy-to-read reporting.
Improved energy efficiency
Clogged or leaking condensate traps are quickly identified, enabling fast response to reduce steam leaks, energy consumption, and the risk of process interruptions or equipment failures.
Fewer unnecessary maintenance visits
Maintenance actions can be targeted only to traps where anomalies are detected.
Predictive maintenance
Continuous monitoring helps identify issues before they cause production disruptions or reduced process efficiency.
Enhanced visibility and reporting
The cloud-based interface provides a clear view of the status, historical data, and alerts for all measurement points.
Manufacturer-independent solution
TrapGuard works with condensate traps from all manufacturers, enabling centralized monitoring of the entire steam system.
How TrapGuard Works
TrapGuard is designed as an easy-to-deploy service solution that requires no heavy system investments.
The implementation consists of three key components:
1. Measurement sensors for condensate traps
Condition monitoring sensors are installed on selected traps to measure performance and detect anomalies. No separate wiring is needed, as the sensors transmit all data wirelessly and securely via Digita’s nationwide LoRaWAN network.
2. Cloud-based analytics and interface
Measurement data is automatically sent to the OverSight cloud service, where it is analyzed and displayed in a clear, user-friendly interface.
3. Alerts and reporting
Anomalies and potential faults are detected automatically, and users receive notifications along with easy-to-read reports detailing recommended actions.
