We have measured our carbon footprint since 2019
Since 2022, we’ve been committed to the Science Based Targets initiative through our parent company Indutrade. Our goal in the short term is to reduce our emissions by 20% by 2025 compared to 2020 levels. We will continue to work towards achieving carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
How our carbon footprint is calculated
The calculation of our carbon footprint is based on the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, a globally accepted standard for calculating the greenhouse gas emissions of companies and organisations.
Reducing our carbon footprint
- The electricity we purchase is produced using renewable energy sources
- We favour low-emission modes of travel
- We recommend remote meetings
- Our company vehicles are hybrid or electric
- The electricity we purchase is produced using renewable energy sources
- We supply our industrial customers with greener and more economical equipment and solutions, helping them develop more sustainable businesses.
Scope of emission accounting
Our emissions accounting covers our direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions (Scope 2). Direct emissions (Scope 1) are caused by the fuel consumption of Kontram vehicles. Indirect emissions (Scope 2) are connected to our purchase of electricity and district heating. Indirect emissions (Scope 3) include emission sources for which reliable data is available, such as the transport and distribution of products imported and sold by Kontram Oy – including life-cycle emissions from fuels, business travel by staff and waste generated by the company’s own operations. From 2022 onwards, the calculation also includes an estimate of emissions from the manufacture of products imported and sold by Kontram Oy, which we have identified as a significant source of emissions.
How we’re working to reduce our carbon footprint
Since 2021, all the electricity we purchase is produced using renewable energy sources. We also emphasise low-emission travel and remote meetings. We have switched to either full electric or rechargeable hybrids in our company cars – and this will have a positive impact on our carbon footprint as our contracts are renewed.
Our most significant contribution to reducing society’s overall emissions is achieved indirectly. We provide our industrial customers with greener, more economical equipment and solutions that enable them to further develop their own businesses to be more sustainable. This is how we’re actively contributing to the common goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development.
